Biden ran for president on a platform that promised to bring stability, unity, and calm. How will he try to do this? What are his prospects for success?

Joe Biden will assume the presidency in a time of difficulty, both globally and domestically. This lecture will draw on historical lessons from prior presidential transitions and a close analysis of Biden’s team to analyze the likely policies and actions of the new administration in its first 100 days, and beyond. We will address expected health, economic, civil rights, military, and diplomatic actions in early 2021, and the probable effects. It will also examine how the continuation of the COVID crisis, partisanship, and foreign rivalries may influence Biden’s start.

Led by an expert in American history, Dr. Jeremi Suri, this seminar will discuss the ways in which the new president may change the country, the opposition he may face, and how his presidency may influence American democracy.

This conversation is part of a six-part series on American Presidents with Dr. Jeremi Suri. Each session is designed as a stand-alone seminar as well as part of a six-week series.
