In this talk, we'll explore the history of bodegas: corner stores that are an essential New York City business, where you can buy everything from homemade tacos to single cupfuls of ice. These stores are connected to the origins of the city itself since wave after wave of immigrants - Germans, Dominicans, Koreans, and more - each left their mark upon the markets of the city. We can't touch on bodegas without mentioning Bodega cats. We'll explore the history of New York's favorite working animal made famous by Instagram, and their unexpected connection to the history of brewing.

Led by an expert on food and history, Sarah Lohman, this interactive seminar will dig deep into the subject of bodegas using a variety of slides and key visual aids. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with increased learning and perspective on these vibrant enclaves.
