Just who was Evita Perón? Join a local expert in Buenos Aires to learn more about this important character, hearing directly from Andrea’s personal testimonies that go further than the books written about Evita Peron today.

This conversation will delve into the life and character of Evita (Eva) Perón, the wife of Argentine President Juan Perón and First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. We’ll learn about her humble origins, her family’s financial struggles and her experience of family death at a young age. Through looking at her childhood and her arrival to the big city of Buenos Aires as an aspiring teen radio personality, we’ll get a better understanding of who she was as a person before she met the emerging star of the new government, Colonel Juan Perón in 1945.

We’ll discuss their early relationship, Juan Perón’s rise to government power and Eva’s role in his election campaign and thereafter in Argentinian politics. Although she was an unofficial political leader, she brought about substantial change for the lower economic classes and helped to enact an array of reforms to their benefit. We’ll discuss her powerful activity as First Lady, from the passing of the women’s suffrage law to the creation of a feminist party and more. We’ll finish the conversation by entering into a debate on the people’s perception of Evita both back then and today. Do the people still love her? Is the country divided in their perception of this formidable character?
