In this talk, we will explore the theme of suffering in the artwork of celebrated Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. We'll discuss how Kahlo used her work to manage the physical and mental pain that she was burdened with for so much of her life.

Frida Kahlo suffered from a broken body from an accident as a teenager, a turbulent relationship with Diego Riviera, and various miscarriages. Her artwork is often remembered as bright and colorful, yet in the middle of her content lie details that allow for a small window into Frida's feelings. We'll use an array of Frida's work to understand how the artist may have been feeling as we discuss how art can help to handle tests and tribulations that life throws at us.

Led by Frida expert Natalia, this interactive seminar will address Frida's sorrow and life using some of her works. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a better understanding of this captivating character.

Natalia is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but chose Mexico as her home and her field of research. From Brazil, she moved to Mexico City in 2014 with a degree in Fashion after finishing her research about Frida Kahlo's clothes. Now, 6 years later, apart from being an expert guide, she is pursuing an MA in History of Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) where she is studying the clothing and style of Georgia O'Keefe's, and comparing them with Kahlo's.
