No writer can discuss literature in Paris without mentioning Ernest Hemingway, and it's impossible to mention Hemingway without discussing the art of storytelling. In this cross-disciplinary seminar that combines literary history, biography, and lessons in the craft of writing, Paris-based novelist Samuél Lopez-Barrantes offers a new way to think about the nature and shape of storytelling by recounting the lesser-known tales of the men and women who helped turn Hemingway into a legend. Drawing on his expertise in European history as well as his work as an author and professor, Samuél offers a new way to think about the facts, fictions, and myths of Hemingway's life in Paris in this lively discussion about modernism, Hemingway, and the art of telling a tale.

Samuél is a novelist and musician who has lived in Paris since 2010. He holds an M.A. in European Society from University College London and an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Samuél teaches literature and creative writing at Paris' Sorbonne. He is also in an American folk-rock trio, Slim & The Beast, whose self-titled EP has already caught the attention of Rolling Stone France.
