In this conversation, we will be led through the amazing collection of Modern European Art of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. The Hermitage's collection of impressionist and post-impressionist art is among the most famous in the world, and one of the key reasons to visit this extraordinary museum. Almost all the museumÕs masterpieces of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism come from the private collections of two rich businessmen and art-patrons Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov. We will talk about Monet and Renoir, Van Gogh and Gauguin, Cezanne and Picasso.

The Hermitage Museum is celebrated for having one of the best collections of Matisse: we will take time focusing on two of his most famous works, "Dance" and "Music". These are now symbols of the Hermitage museum complex and important focal topics.

Led by an art historian Irina Malinovskaia (whose passion is the art of Matisse) this seminar will give a deep dive into the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists collection housed in the State Hermitage Museum. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of European art of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Irina is a native to Saint Petersburg with a passion for history and art. She is a licensed guide of the State Hermitage museum. She has a Master's degree in art history from the University of Saint Petersburg.
