This conversation will introduce you to exceptional Irish women over the course of history. With our expert (a historian and archaeologist), we will look at how we know what we know about women of the past. We will discuss how women are represented both in history and prehistory, briefly touching on the idea of how we gain knowledge of the past through primary documents, secondary testimonials, and myth. Most importantly we will hear about great women, spanning over 1000 years from St. Brigid to Countess Markievicz: sacred healers to profane reactionaries.

We will divide our conversation between representations of women in Myth and Manuscript, whilst looking in-depth at women of the 20th-century revolution. Join Jennifer Carbery, a Dublin native, and local expert, for a more in-depth look at women's history, the adversities they faced and how they overcame them through powerful actions. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with a better understanding of this lesser-known topic.

Jennifer works with historical research around Ireland's complex history.
