John F. Kennedy’s short and tragic time in the White House transformed the image and expectations surrounding the modern American presidency. JFK has a lot to teach us about leadership and purpose as Americans. Join acclaimed professor and author Dr. Jeremi Suri to explore the legacy of John F. Kennedy.

John F. Kennedy’s short and tragic time in the White House transformed the image and expectations surrounding the modern American presidency. Kennedy brought new energy, activism, and intelligence to what had been a conservative office in the previous decade. He made the White House a hub for the nation’s “best and brightest” and promised to open “new frontiers” at home, abroad, and in space. This lecture will examine the image, expectations, and realities of Kennedy’s presidency, with attention to the legacies of his brief time in office. The lecture will also discuss the lessons — positive and negative — from Kennedy’s presidency for a twenty-first-century American nation deeply divided and uncertain about future leadership.

Led by an expert on contemporary politics and foreign policy, Jeremi Suri, this interactive seminar will explore the presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his legacy. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of the impact of JFK on the modern American Presidency.

Each session is designed as a stand-alone seminar as well as part of a six-week series.
