The Natural History Museum in London is one of the most important natural history treasure-troves in the world, with 80 million specimens. The building itself is a work of art and could be called London’s cathedral of nature. This conversation will explore the lost world of the Jurassic through its world-class fossil collections. We will explore how fossil discoveries from the 19th to 21st centuries have allowed us to picture a lost world inhabited by Dinosaurs, ancient reptiles, and strange pine forests. We will look at the great 19th-century Palaeontologist Mary Anning and how she searched the rocks of England's South Coast to unearth what were believed to be sea dragons. We will not only look at these ancient remains but also see how Palaeontologists have revealed how these ancient extinct animals lived.

Led by expert paleontologist Dr. Aaron W. Hunter who works and publishes research on Jurassic fossils, this interactive seminar will take you on a journey into a distant past. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of prehistoric life. We will look at amazing fossils from England, Germany where shallow seas were inhabited by marine crocodiles and floating islands of tree trunks with ancient starfish-like animals attached to them. We will finish by looking at the animals that ruled the land for millions of years, the Dinosaurs, and how the first paleontologists discovered and named these amazing creatures from the Jurassic World.

Aaron W Hunter a Palaeontologist at the University of Cambridge and a Blue Badge Guide for London. He is active in both teaching and research in Palaeontology and specialises in the marine animals that lived at the same time as the dinosaurs including the Jurassic.
