This conversation offers an introduction to Lebanon and its culture with a special emphasis on its culinary traditions, with influences that span from the Ottoman Empire and the French rule to today's cuisine.

Despite its recent stormy events, Lebanon's rich and ancient history is a fascinating one. This seminar is not a deep dive into this ancient history but rather an exploration of what makes Lebanon a great cultural and food destination. With influences that span as far back as the Ottoman Empire some 500 years ago and the French rule of the twentieth century, today's Lebanese cuisine happily juggles traditional mezze with flaky, buttery pastries without missing a beat.

In this seminar, Lebanese-born and Montreal-based food and travel writer Mayssam Samaha takes participants on a culinary exploration of her home country. She will reminisce about the five-hour-long Sunday family lunches of her childhood while also exploring today's food scene in Beirut, one of the best gastronomic cities in the world.

Led by an expert on food and travel, Mayssam Samaha, this interactive seminar will explore Lebanon's rich culinary culture. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased eagerness to discover this tiny sliver of land located on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

Mayssam Samaha is the Montreal-based food and travel writer behind Will Travel for Food. She was born and raised in Lebanon and lived in New York City before finally settling on Montreal as her home. Her blog, Will Travel for Food, has been a finalist in the Culinary Travel category of Saveur Magazine's Best Blog Awards in 2014 and 2015. Mayssam is Tourisme Montréal's leading food writer. She also contributes to several other food and travel publications.
