Morocco is one of Africa's most captivating and reachable travel destinations. On the north-western tip of the continent, and bounded by the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and the great sand sea of the Sahara Desert, it is a historic and cultural crossroads between Islam and Europe. Join an expert on Morocco as we explore the richness of Moroccan culture through its traditions, cuisine, crafts, and much more.

This seminar will unpack some of the most important aspects of Moroccan culture, from language and crafts to food and drink. What are the differences between the country's Arabs and Berbers? What are the origins of 'Morocco' leather, and what makes the country's carpets special? How many spices do you need to make a tagine, and how long should it really take to prepare a proper serving of couscous? By exploring its souks, we'll learn what makes Moroccan crafts some of the best in the world, as well as the ingredients that make its tagines and couscous the basis of one of the world's great cuisines.

Led by an expert on Morocco, travel writer and guidebook author Paul Clammer, this interactive seminar will explore the best of what this North African country has to offer through its interesting culture. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Moroccan culture, history, and food.

Paul Clammer is a travel writer and the author of more than 40 guidebooks for Lonely Planet. He first visited Morocco in 1994, and has been a regular visitor every since, working there as a tour guide and as co-writer on five editions of LP's guidebook to the country. More recently, he has lived in the medina in Fez, where his partner is` restoring a centuries-old traditional Moroccan townhouse.

Great information

Great presentation and Paul is easy to listen to and has the information that I wanted to know. This was my second presentation and I have signed up for several more of his about Morocco.

Fun time in Morocco!

Paul certainly knows Morocco well. It was fun to share information and photos of food items and crafts.

Fascinating, useful and Well-Presented

This was a fantastic talk. It seemed as if almost every time a question popped into my mind, it was answered in the very next sentence— long before I’d ever have been able to ask. I thought he did an amazing job of capturing the flavor (sometimes in a quite literal sense)of the country and crucial elements of Moroccan culture in a way which was satisfying and, at the same time, inspired me to plan to travel there as soon as conditions allow. (I visited Morocco many years ago, as a teenager, but am now excited to experience all the things which I missed during that quite superficial tour experience.)

Moroccan Culture

This was the second seminar I have taken with Paul and it was excellent. Paul provided practical information when planning a trip to Morocco ( even how to bargain when buying a rug). His description of Moroccan food, traditional crafts and architecture were supplemented by excellent photos and slides.
