Pablo Picasso told Pierre Deux (his biographer and friend), "[Barcelona] is where it all began... There is where I understood how far I could reach". The power of the city for Picasso's life and works cannot be underplayed. It's where he gained his early experiences as an artist and forged a large portion of his personality and friendships.

This conversation will focus on Picasso's life, from the period of self encounter as an artist and as a person, to all the personalities he met and the places that left such a mark on his career. We'll use the catalog of paintings of the Picasso Museum of Barcelona as well as additional artworks that can be found in other museums around the world to add context to our conversation. We'll focus for the most part on the Early Years, however, our talk will also touch on both the Blue Period and the Rose Period. We'll conclude with a chapter on Picasso's visit to Barcelona in 1917 and the subsequent opening of the Picasso Museum and a donation by Pablo Picasso himself.

Led by local Catalonian and art historian Biel Heredero, this interactive conversation will examine Picasso's life and art up close, under the umbrella of his connection with Barcelona. Designed to inform and inspire, we will emerge with increased knowledge and understanding of the impact that Barcelona had on Picasso, but also Picasso had on Barcelona.

A native of Barcelona, Biel has a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona, where he wrote his thesis on Catalan artists. He is active in the Barcelona art scene, and as a Catalan, he has tremendous knowledge of the region's history and culture.
