Follow the impressive career of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian ranging from Amsterdam to New York, Jazz to architecture, and literature to painting with art historian and expert Sabry Amrouissi.

Part of the 'big three' of Dutch painters (Rembrandt and van Gogh being the other two) Piet Mondrian was present and involved in all the groundbreaking movements of modern art before and after the turn of the 19th century. In this conversation, we will follow that road; one which ended in him making art truly abstract.

Together, we will follow his career, from the early beginnings as a classic impressionist/symbolist painter, his stint as a cubist culminating in his membership of groundbreaking artist group 'The Stijl', to his revolutionary and famous abstract work in primary colors. From Amsterdam to Paris, and from London to New-York, Piet Mondrian's career is essential in the development of modern art, paving the road for many abstract artists after him.

Led by Amsterdam-Art-Historian Sabry Amroussi we will travel the road modern art took via this unique artist career spanning more than 60 years. From Jazz to architecture, from literature to painting, Amroussi's passion for this subject will bring this unique period in art history to life, and participants in this conversation will come away with a profoundly different understanding of this period and important artist.

Sabry Amroussi is an art historian and writer living and working in Amsterdam. He specializes in the art of the Dutch Golden Age, mainly in the works of Rembrandt and his school, and also has a keen interest in the Jewish history of Amsterdam. He lectures and teaches on both subjects, and gives art historical tours all across Europe. As a true omnivore when it comes to art, culture, and even cuisine, he has worked with and for major museums and collectors, such as the LACMA, Rijksmuseum, van Gogh Museum and the P de Boer collection on Amsterdam. As a guide for Context, he is eager to share this knowledge in real life, always with a big scoop of humor, ofter intermingling art with social life, cuisine, and history.
