Join an expert for an in-depth immersion into the world of Portuguese Port wines as we go on a tasting tour of the Douro wine region, the first demarcated and regulated wine region in the world. Together, we will learn all about the most renowned type of fortified wine: Port wine. 

In this seminar, we will touch briefly on the history of the Douro and its terroir as we learn about the types of grapes that are grown. We'll also learn how Port wine is made and the types of Port wine available, plus the insider scoop on what participants should be drinking. We'll discuss how to read wine labels and what conditions we should be safely storing Port. As we conclude, participants will learn of some suggested food pairings to go with Port to enhance the experience of this celebrated nectar.

To best understand how Port wine is made, we will go through the process of how wine is made from vine to glass. This will give participants the opportunity to utterly understand the process of winemaking and how it is possible, from the same types of grapes to produce different types of Port.

Led by a certified WSET Portuguese sommelier, Eric Fraga Santos, this interactive seminar will give a thorough introduction to Port wines. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of how wine is made, the wonders of the Douro, and its unique style of producing Port wine.

Eric Santos has spent the last 5 years dedicated to learning about Portuguese wine and its wonders. He is a WSET certified sommelier aiming to take the Diploma level with the end goal of becoming one of the world's next Master of Wines. He worked as a sommelier at The Yeatman's two Michelin star restaurant, and had the opportunity to create and manage the wine culture onboard the 12 ships of Douro Azul. Most recently he opened The Lodge Wine & Business Hotel as the Head Sommelier. Eric loves to travel and meet new people, just as much as he loves to try new wines from around the world. One of his greatest joys is to visit the Douro Valley and be mesmerized by the amazing views.
