The architect of the Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí, once declared confidently: "People will come from all over the world to see it." And he was right.

Gaudí's blueprints for this outstanding work of art have been honored by the current architects who lead the project. After more than 140 years of construction work, the completion of the Basilica was planned to take place in 2026, to commemorate the centennial of Gaudí's death. Due to the global pandemic, this deadline will be readjusted.

During this conversation, we'll learn about Sagrada Familia's overall perspective but emphasizing three important aspects. First, we'll learn more about the architect who designed it, Antoni Gaudí, and his social context, and also the promoters of the church. Secondly, we'll go through the history of the construction and delve into the main sections of his masterpiece. Finally, we'll see why it is possible to complete the remaining 30% of the entire Basilica in a short delay.

Led by a local expert on Barcelona and Catalonia architecture, art, and history, Guille Genestar, this interactive conversation will talk about the world-famous Sagrada Familia church and its close completion. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased interest in this wonderful architectural masterpiece and Gaudí's genius.

Excellent program

This course was very interesting, well-organized and thorough. As someone who has been interested in La Sagrada Familia and Gaudi for a long time, I very much enjoyed the history and current status of the completion of this project. I visited in 2013 and will be returning again to see the progress.

Fascinating Look Back & Look Forward

Todays fascinating program was not only looking forward to completion, but a comprehensive look back, to the architect Gaudi. After visiting Sagrada Familia in 2019, informed me of what to look forward to following completion. Today's program reinforced, that returning to see Sagrada Familia following completion will be another worthwhile visit back to Barcelona.

This was the best presentation that I have listened to regarding this subject. I would love to take a face-to-face tour with Guille.
