Santorini is on every traveler’s bucket list. The allure of the Greek islands draws visitors from far and wide, but Santorini’s dramatic black cliffs, white-washed architecture, and striking blue-domed churches create a unique visual identity. Together with a local expert, we will explore the island and revel in its beauty, history, and culture.

Santorini, named Best Island in Europe once again in 2020, and one of the most instagrammable places in the world, is a dream destination. Millions of people every year have this outstanding island on their travel itineraries. In this introduction to the island, we will enjoy Santorini’s classic highlights and landscapes, such as the renowned sunset in Oia, the vibrant capital Fira, and the Red Beach. We will learn how the volcano had such a predominant role in the development of the island.  We will have a quick introduction to the history, the myth of Atlantis, and the dominations which alternated over the centuries. We will also discuss the classic Cycladic architecture of Santorini and the less known villages in the south of the island. Santorini has become a trendy food and wine destination: we’ll learn about the local winemaking tradition, one of the oldest in Europe, and the traditional dishes cooked with unique local products.

Led by a photographer and local expert, Nicoletta Barbata, this conversation will explore the many aspects that make Santorini so stunning through photographs, videos, and maps. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an understanding of the island’s history and gorgeous scenery.

Born and bred in Milan, Nicoletta Barbata lived in Rome and London before following her Greek roots (her Grandmother) and settling in one of the most beautiful places in the world—Santorini. Nicoletta is a photographer, writer, and an eager reader. She likes to describe herself as a genuine storyteller. Excellent program on Santorini!

I am traveling to Santorini in 2022 and wanted to learn more about the island. This program gave me exactly what I wanted--a good overview, places not to miss, and a primer on food and culture of this amazing island. I will be taking my notes with me to Santorini.

Interesting and Informative

Ms. Barbata's virtual tour of Santorini was very interesting and I learned a lot about Santorini. It's much more than hotels and sunsets. I especially enjoyed learning about the Greek Pompei and the history of the islands. Thank you Nicoletta and we hope to meet you in Santorini in 2022!

Remembering Santorini

I thought I had left a comment on this excellent presentation which, even with the technical difficulties that divided it into two sections, was well organized and very well done. I have been to Santorini, and the storytelling way of the presenter brought the island to life and brought back many pleasant memories...
