Known as 'The White City', the liberal capital of the middle east, famous for its culinary and nightlife scene, and established from the sands a little over 100 years ago, the city of Tel Aviv is a lively modern city. Join an expert to gain an all-rounded introduction to this vibrant city.
However young Tel Aviv is, the reason for its location is related to the 4,000-year-old city of Jaffa, which has been an important port city along the Mediterranean already since the times of the pharaohs and the bible. The city was considered to be the port leading to the holy city of Jerusalem, and as such has welcomed pilgrims of all religions from all over the world throughout the ages.
The seminar will give an overview of the development of the city, starting in the small fortified city by the sea, that during the nineteenth century has grown in every direction, by the different populations establishing more and more neighborhoods, leading to its current size.
Led by Stav Shahaf, an expert on Tel Aviv history and contemporary affairs, this interactive seminar will explore the development of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. Designed to inform curiosity as well as future travels, participants will come away with an increased understanding of Tel Aviv-Jaffa’s unique vibrancy, history, and culture as well as tips for future visits.
Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Stav Shahaf has always been curious about her unique environment. This curiosity has led Stav to become a certified tour guide, and study for her BA in the land of Israel studies, an MA in American Jewish studies, and countless short courses on the topic of Tel Aviv-Jaffa as a specialization field. Currently living in Tel Aviv with her family, Stav continues to explore the city’s contemporary developments. Stav has been leading guided tours in the city since 2014, and as a storyteller she can offer a local perspective and understanding of the Israeli culture, mentality, and history.

I have been there about 6 times, but learned so much in this seminar. I'd like to hear more from stay in future seminars. Excellent
Stav was very enthusiastic and it was evident how much she loved her city of Tel Aviv. The problem with the seminar was that Stav's internet connection was slow and it took a long time for her photos to upload. There was also a bit of background noise.
I was really looking forward to this seminar but it feel short on many levels. The slow connection made for poor audio and visuals to the point that they were very distracting. Slides took forever to come into focus and the presenter's voice was quivering half the time. The presentation started out interesting but after awhile, different neighborhoods all seemed to blend together. I didn't come away learning much more than I already knew about Tel Aviv.
