I have traveled the Tube numerous times but rarely paid much attention to the the art , architecture and design of the stations, the tiles, the front over of the diagram, etc. etc. Fiona's seminar was excellent, giving me a much broader view of this marvelous transport system.
Fiona is one of the best tour guides I've listened to - and I'm up to probably 20 of these Context sessions during the Pandemic. I did walking tours in several different cities with Context, and they are always good. I have lived in the UK - in Oxford - on and off over ten years. I know the Tube well. Fiona brought it to life - its' history, the major players, how it was designed, how it was built, how it has evolved since roughly 1863. I think her illustrations and her stories that went along with them were terrific. I am recommending this to all of my friends. I can't wait to get the info she said she would forward with further information, books, and video.
This was a terrific seminar.... one of the best we have taken with Context. Fiona's presentation was organized and informative and her visuals were great,. We have been to London and used the tube numerous times but gained a new appreciation of it after this seminar. We would love to take a tour with Fiona on a future trip to London
Fiona is a great addition to the Context stable of experts. She was knowledgeable (of course), thorough, engaging, and kept a great pace. Content was very accessible both to those who have been to London and those who hope to. She displayed a range of knowledge in several arenas: art, architecture, urban planning, social history, etc. She also answered questions thoughtfully. I would definitely attend more of her seminars.
Expected more art adorning the stations as in Russia but the amazing thing is the planning, the building and expansion of the first underground system in the world,
